Near the tree, the water buffalo was pretty much where we left
it the previous night, with two lionesses and their cubs in
attendance and feeding in relays. This lioness is calling
her cubs to the kill from the island where they were cavorting
beneath the vulture tree. Lionesses make the silliest sound
calling their cubs--it's more like the "meep" of a housecat
than the roar you expect from the Queen of Beasts.
